ZIP 2.02A Update Information
E. Meyer - 30 May 1996
See UPDATE GUIDE below for new features and changes in this version.
================================ RECENT NEWS ================================
REGISTRATION FEES REMAIN UNCHANGED
There is no license upgrade fee for the new, faster ZIP 2.0; existing
registrations and licenses remain in effect. If you have not already
registered your copy of ZIP, you are encouraged to do so, to support further
improvements.
================================ UPDATE GUIDE ===============================
The following is a quick guide, for users of previous versions of ZIP, to
noticeable changes in operation. Please check ZIP.DOC for full details.
Note the author's new address as of May 1996: 3045 4th Street, Boulder CO
80304. ZIP 2.02A is a minor update with a few internal improvements.
NEW IN ZIP 2.02 (Nov 1995)
* Internal improvements have been made which should fix the intermittent
difficulties some users (especially with older/slower computers) have had
transferring files with the /S and/or /T options.
* When the /S and /E options are both in effect, directories without
counterparts on the receiving end no longer cause Write Errors or directory
creation, since the files involved obviously do not already exist.
* The default setting utility is now called ZIPSET, not ZIPCFG.
* ZIP now allows the use of the Infrared port on the HP LX palmtops; just
use the command "SERCTL /I" first. Also, an icon (ZIP.ICN) is provided for
the HP 100/200LX Application Manager.
========================== RECENT UPDATE SUMMARIES ==========================
ZIP 2.01 (Mar 1995)
This is a minor revision, which fixes two internal problems: one that
might degrade overall performance on some 8086/80286 systems, one that might
cause occasional difficulties transferring a file on 386/486 systems. ZIP
also runs in less memory, and ZIP /? reports the required amount.
ZIP 2.0 (Feb 1995)
Although it still looks much the same, this version has extensive
internal improvements. When ZIP 2.0 is running between two computers with
80386 or better CPU's, it will transfer data much faster (typically a 50-100%
improvement). Also, ZIP now runs in significantly less memory than the
minimum previously required.
ZIP 1.72 (Jun 1994)
* A new option /X causes ZIP to quit if a ZIP receiver or server is not
detected. This is most useful in batch files. See WAITING FOR A CONNECTION.
* A new menu function "T"ime can be used to display the time and date, or
synchronize the server's clock with the client's. See SERVER TIME COMMAND.
* ZIP now compares the system time on your two PC's, and applies a "clock
synch tolerance" to certain operations (/C,/T). See CLOCK SYNCHRONIZATION.
ZIP 1.71 (Dec 1993)
This release included only minor fixes, including proper recognition of
HP95LX palmtop (inadvertently fouled up in 1.7).
ZIP 1.7 (Nov 1993)
* A new option /A allows creation of new directories, if you try to log
or send files to a directory that does not already exist.
* There is a new option /S to transfer files from all subdirectories.
* The option for server mode has been changed from /S to /V.
* There is a new option /M to select monochrome (DOS) or color output.
* ZIP recognizes the HP100LX palmtop, as well as the HP95LX.
ZIP 1.63 (Jun 1993)
* There are now options to control how file attributes (Hidden, System,
Read/only, Archive) should be handled.
